This time of the season is the most important time to make sure you use a moisturizer. The cold air makes the skin very dry and dehydrated. You might even experience tightness and notice ashy spots on your hands, face, and legs. These areas suffer the most because they are the least covered area. Let’s not forget about your feet because they spend most of the time tucked away in those nice warm socks which means they need some extra moisture.
Tip: Moisturize your body at least twice a day.
Shea Butter has a thick texture making it a great protective barrier to the cold and wind for your entire body. After your shower, dry off and apply it to your skin to help lock in the natural moisture your skin has while wet. Shea Butter aids in the skins natural collagen production as well as, nourishing it. It contains vitamin A, E, F and K as well as anti-aging properties. It also has healing abilities making it great ointment for scars. If using as a face moisturizer and will be applying foundation, wait 20 minutes or use only at night.
Shea butter works well on all skin types. The color may vary from white to a light yellow to a dark yellow. White Shea Butter is refined with no added chemicals. The yellow butters have some ingredients added to it but if it’s a natural Shea Butter, the added ingredient are safe for your skin. There are two different textures, solid and whipped. You may prefer whipped because of its smooth texture. No matter which form or color you use, it’s a great natural moisturizer.
My next favorite and I’m sure you already have it in your kitchen. It’s Olive Oil, it is so simple, and affordable. A little bit goes a long way. It combats dry skin, prevents and diminish wrinkles, and is great for super dry hands. Lather your entire body with the oil after your shower. If you have oily skin, rosacea or acne prone skin, I don’t recommend using any oils. Stick to the Shea butter.
It doesn’t have to be hard to take care of your skin. I like to treat my skin with the most natural products as possible. Sometimes I will even mix a scoop of Shea butter with a scoop of cocoa butter and a few drops of olive oil together and apply it over my entire body. When it comes to my face, I stick to just one product at a time. I will however change up every few days. Three times a week, I will use the butter and the rest of the week, I will use the oil. As you become familiar with using these two moisturizers, you will find the right balance for your skin.
