5 tips to help achieve “new Year, new YOU” resolutions!

Welcome to 2018! You did it! You survived 2017! When you look back at 2017, are you proud of your personal growth?

Growth in your career, in your health, in your patience, your knowledge, the list goes on and on. As you embark on your New Year’s Resolutions for 2018, reflect on this past year and ask yourself, “Am I where I wanted to be a year ago?” If not, that’s okay! That just means it’s a wake-up call to take this year seriously and not waste any more time; words without actions are pointless!

Here are five tips to help you stick to your New Year’s Resolutions for the WHOLE year:

  1. Start Small

If you’re like me, then you’re well aware that you have a “go big or go home” mentality. To make change in your life that is going to stick, we don’t want to completely shock the body. Start small and build-up over time. If you are looking to workout 45 minutes 3-4 days a week, but haven’t been working out AT ALL, don’t try to go right for this duration. Start out twice a week for 10 minutes and add on time or days each week! This is how you stay consistent and ensure you don’t abort mission “New Year’s Resolution.”

  1. Set- Up Your Environment

Set yourself up for success! If your goal is to eat healthier, then eliminate junk food from your home. If you want to read more, then have your book easily accessible. The point is that you want to make this as easy on yourself as possible! If you’re giving something up, then get it out of your reach. If you’re wanting more of something, then make it visible and appealing!

  1. Remember it’s a Marathon, Not a Sprint

It’s easy to start off strong with your resolutions. When I ran a fitness facility, we’d always have a peak attendance in January and then a dramatic decline in February. This is very common. That’s why it’s important to remember that you’re in it for the long run. As you’re planning out accomplishing your goals for the new year, think about every month. Perhaps you’re an accountant and you know that during tax season your schedule is hectic. You need to be prepared mentally and physically to work around those constraints. That may include having to meal prep and forcing yourself to take a five-minute break to eat lunch!

  1. Don’t Let Your Mind Go Rogue

What makes peoples’ resolutions go up in flames? That little voice in their head that tells them it’s okay to skip the workout, that one tub of ice cream “never hurt nobody”, or that binge-watching Netflix is more important than adhering to their other goals. If you want your resolution to stick, you have to learn to control and silence that voice inside of your head. Without training, the choice will always be the path of least resistance. Control your mind or it will control you!

  1. Something is Better Than Nothing!

Don’t be too hard on yourself. There will be days that you will be unmotivated to stick with your resolution, but remember that something is better than nothing! If you’re unable to attend your hour-long yoga class then go for a ten-minute walk. If you make it a priority, you will always have time to do SOMETHING!

Happy New Year and go kick some bootayyyy in 2018! The only thing stopping you from accomplishing your goals is you. Imagine where you’ll be a year from now after you reach your goals! Start with a fresh mindset. This is YOUR year to make some serious change. It’s time to live your greatest life! You are unstoppable girl!
