As this end of this decade is quickly approaching (can you believe we’re about to be in the 2020s?) it is astonishing to look back and think about how the beauty industry has grown over the last decade. It appears a new beauty line comes into the market almost daily and each of them claims to have the “best new product.” This oversaturation of trendy makeup products can leave you, the consumer, feeling a serious sense of “f.o.m.o.” (fear of missing out) if you don’t purchase these products and keep up with all the new beauty trends. However, you shouldn’t worry about “f.o.m.o.” with the newest cosmetics on the market because you should only use beauty items that are customized to your skin needs and lifestyle.
Therefore, contrary to popular opinion, if you want to look & feel your best you should buy less trendy beauty products, use more skincare, and regularly practice copious amounts of self-care to learn how to really feel good in your own skin. You should buy less makeup if you want to look and feel your best! Right now, you’re probably thinking, “Ok a Makeup Artist is telling me that should I buy less makeup and that sounds absolutely crazy.” As counterintuitive as that statement seems, it’s based on the simple fact that makeup and beauty products expire much quicker than the average person realizes leading to a lot of waste which is bad for our personal morale and environment. For example, the average mascara expires in three months, the standard foundation expires in six months, and the typical lipstick expires in one year. So, when you go to Sephora and buy the trendy new fall collection of four lipsticks just know that in a year or less, no matter how little you have worn those products, they should be thrown away. Ultimately, looking great is important and having a sizable makeup collection is cool, but consciously contributing to waste by buying excessive amounts of beauty products, is never in trend.
Looking and feeling your best really comes down to practicing self-love and positive thinking. You can have the best beauty products in the world but if you don’t use them or you constantly battle with negative thoughts about your appearance, all of that is for naught. So how do you improve your mindset? There are so many answers to that question but for sake of time, regular self-care is a great place to start. Taking care of yourself doesn’t have to mean splurging at Ulta or buying the hottest beauty products. It can be something simple like making a homemade face mask, painting your toenails or even just sitting in a nice relaxing bubble bath. By making it a habit to take better care of yourself, you’ll appreciate yourself more, think more positively, and you’ll feel better about yourself. Moreover, positive energy is contagious, and it has a ripple effect that positively impacts the lives of loved ones, friends, and pretty much anyone around you.
In conclusion, being more particular about what products you spend your hard-earned money on, taking care of your skin and learning how to love yourself are all trends that you should follow because they never go out of style, my friend.
