Happy New Year my beautiful butterflies! I’m so excited to start 2018!For me, the New year always feels like a fresh start on things. One of my goals that I’m focusing on this year is detoxing my body, mind, and skin. It’s important for me to feel, look and do my best. In the next few days I will be fasting for the first time for 30 days (pray for me ladies). So, I thought this might be a good time to bring you guys in with me on a New Year Skin Care detoxifying and rejuvenation plan.
Remember when you were a kid and grown folks would tell you to drink water?! Well, I tell you the truth (in my Ms. Hazel voice), I couldn’t stand to hear that! Like who wants to drink water? Really Mom?!! Well, turns out it has some benefits to it other than I was drinking up all the juice and she was trying to make it stretch until dinner.
Did you know our skin is made up of cells? That our cells hold liquid and need replenishing. How about we are secreting water all day long when we breathe, sweat, talk and relieve ourselves. All day we are losing water. Without a good amount of water, the body’s organs can’t do their job leaving your skin dry, flaky, rough skin, dullness, ashy, and no radiance at all. If you have aging skin, look out for wrinkles and loss of elasticity. For those that have oily skin, here comes acne. It may sound simple but it’s so true! We really are what we put in our bodies and in the case of water, what we don’t put in. Water hydrates; it rejuvenates, and it gives life.
In lieu of a myriad of sweetened drink options, choose water. Make sure to drink at least eight glasses a day. If taste is an issue, try these thirst-quenching spa water recipes.
16 oz. of water
1 sliced cucumber
2 mint leaves (optional)
If you like it sweet
16 oz. of water
a handful of mixed fruit
My favorite
16 oz of water
1 slice of orange
1 slice of lime
2 slices of lemon
The great part is you’ll only need to refill your glass or water bottle with water throughout the day. Sit back and wait, in a few weeks your skin will come back to life. No matter what condition it’s in now, it will only improve. Remember my beautiful butterflies, love the skin you’re in!
